Winter Is Here, Crash Boom Bang!
Yesterday we got our first taste of Winter. An unpredicted 6" of snow came roaring in with strong winds. I think the winds were predicted but no one predicted the snow.
Having a large Air Force Base here we are used to our share of accidents with the first snowfall. For many of the fine men and women on the base it's the first time they have seen snow. Well it's compounded this year with our oil boom and a whole lot more drivers who have never seen or driven in snow before.
The paper says over 100 accidents were reported yesterday. Mine was one of those that went unreported. The young man who hit my parked car did not want certain people to know about it so he just handed me a big wad of cash and I said OK (or Ye Haw or something).
If you are headed up North and you are not used to snow, or even if you are, keep in mind good tires and a go slow approach are the best ways to keep from crashing or occupying the ditch.

Oh no! Unfortunate to hear........ Stay safe and warm!~ Bringing some sunshine from the OC~.
Thanks Lauren, this may be the first day of winter weather for us but I'm ready to head South for at least 4 months. Got a spare room?
Glad it wasn't a worse accident, and he kinda handled it. A big wad of cash is never a bad way to go...
HI BOB! Yee haw and a kick jump in the air! Sad for the Sephia but glad you're OK . People struggle in snow, and here in AZ - they struggle when it rains - crashes jump on those days!
Ben, Thanks, I'm glad I was not in the car. The crash moved it a good 6' with the emergency brake on and the car in gear.
HI GABRIELLE! I'd been thinking about replacing the vehicle anyway along with the RealMan Mobile and just having one car that would be good for clients and yet not break me at the pump. I'm looking at a Honda van right now.
Bob - Sacramento once had 2 thriving Air Force Bases, plus an Army Base. All are now decommissioned, and transferred to other use. However, I remember one Airman, who was of Hawaiian decent. His first 4 years in the service were somewhere in the mid-west, that had snow. He talked about getting off a plane in February, with short-sleeves. The temps outside about 15 degrees. He had NEVER experienced anything less than 60.
Hi Bob! I would have a hard time driving in the snow also. It's so rare here in the Houston area, that none of us would know what to do! I'm glad you weren't in that car when it got hit!
Myrl, I think if I was from Hawaii I'd be content to stay in paradise. All those base closings are really scary.
Rose, Thank you for the concern, I'm sure glad I was not in there either.
Sucks you got in accident but hey sounds like you made out ok. Funny comment above about the guy who never experienced the cold before
Bob, I'm pleased with the outcome, especially being it's still drivable. I can maybe top the story of the Hawaiian, I once had a Filipino girl friend who told me that in preparing to come to North Dakota she would sit in a Restaurants freezer where she worked. I don't remember asking her if it worked or not.
