Do You Have Any Historical Knowledge Of This Building?

Minot's Temple Building

I was walking around downtown Minot last week looking to snap a picture of an old or interesting building. This building located at 17 South Main Street stood out to me because of the interesting brickwork and the date, which I believe is 1883.

It’s a shame that much of the front of the building is “modernized” but I find the remaining brickwork amazing and intriguing. I also wish I could take the signs down and see what’s underneath. I’m sure the original name of the building is still there.

17 S. Main St Minot ND

To me the building looks like it may have originally been some sort of temple, either religious or labor.

 Temple Bldg odd number   Devil

The top right cornerstone especially intrigued me with the year on it, as it was very hard to read. I was sure to zoom in as close as I could and I still am only guessing that the number is 83. But what else was I seeing… a little devil? I went back and took more shots so what you see is the best I’ve got. I used the simple “paint” program that has been on every windows program since Win 3.1 to enhance the little devil I’m seeing. Tell me, am I crazy?

Sorry that I can't help you on this building, but I see a unicorn and duck (LOL)

I thought that you might like to banish that little devil from your mind Bob "RealMan" Timm

And the duck seems to be wearing a bonnet or hat...must be to protect it from the sun!

It looks like a goat to me, Bob. You could look for an abstract of title, and maybe that would give you some idea as to its origins.

Good morning Bob. Looks like a goat, I suppose as good a guess as any. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Hmmm....what I can say for sure is that there are not many masons that can

or would do the kind of brickwork you see here.

Bob - I have it on "good authority" that the Illuminati often convened for rituals on the upper level of the building!  They buried the bodies in the basement!

Hi, Bob. I love old buildings and they don't make them like this one anymore. Let us know if you find anything out.

The building would look great brought back to it's original state.

Good luck and success.

I would say that it could go either way a "goat" or "devil", interesting for sure.

I am surprised the historical society didn't catch this. It would look great changed back to the original architecture.

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm

I lived on the base many years ago and used to go downtown with my mom so I might have seen this building. Good times there. I think it looks like a bull or a goat. We all see different things. I do not think it was a devil!
