No Wonder SS is Broke!

If I Retire the Family Retires

Old Man Rant

I decided I was going to put in for social security this year when I turn 62. I put in early because having already had one heart attack I don't see longevity in the cards for me thus I might as well put in now.

A few days after filing I received an email saying my representative needed to visit with me.

My representative was very kind but he kept asking me about my wife and kids ages and ss numbers.

I finally asked him what they had to do about it? I'm the one who will be collecting.

I was informed that being my wife is under retirement age and my children are minors they also would be getting checks!

So I will say it again, NO WONDER SS IS BROKE!

Good afternoon Bob,

So does that mean you are holding off to 66?

And if you collect at 62 you can only make about $14,000 each year til you are 66.

Make yourself an astonishing day.

Good that you are doing your due diligence...even if SS makes it tough to do so. Good luck

Hi Bob.  SS is broken and 50% of the population does not pay taxes.  Hmmmmm

Good afternoon Bob. My neighbor started collecting benefits at 62. He had a daughter under 18 who also got benefits! Sounds like a broken system to me! Enjoy your day!

Social Security was never ment to be a check for everyone system  That IS why they are going broke.

A scary scene Bob, I think about our broken system often.

Based on the amount that they pay out, you may need checks for the whole family to make it worthwhile.

Don't count yourself out Bob, for most a heart attack is just a wake up call and they change a few habits and live to be very old people.

I hope, you'll leave a long happy life and make a lot of money with RE sales, so you do not need to rely on SS.

Good Grief ... maybe I need a 2 hour call with you to understand this.  I would think they would only collect if you were dead.

And more more thing ... the issue for me with collecting at 62 is that, as I understand it ... I would be limited to how much income I earn ... otherwise I'd be paying much higher taxes.  Maybe it is time to explore this again ... as 62 is knocking on my door.

I keep hearing this and it always sounds suspicious to me, like a political talking points more than a reality on the whole. Yet, there are some problems as with all things. We adapt and we are resilient.

There is a great deal about social security that doesn't make a whole lot of sense!
