Rock Art is NOT Velvet Elvis or Album Covers

If you think rock art is Velvet Elvis or weird album covers you need a little educating from Linda Olson, Professor of Studio Arts at Minot State University. I could not believe how fast the time went on this subject.

Linda tells us about some local (ND rock) at and more. BTW the proper names for rock art are petroglyph (art carved into rock), pictograph (art painted unto rock), and petroform or geoglyph (art made from rock). We also talk about fiber arts. Again, just to clarify, fiber arts involve fiber... not fiber optics.

Good Morning Bob "RealMan" Timm

I bet that WAS a fascinating topic to learn about

Ha,ha, ha, I thought you were going to discuss the metamorphosis and geology, LOL. I often take photos of rocks and sedimentary layers because they are so pretty!

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Realtor Top 1% . Western ND has "Badlands" much like South Dakota and they are very beautiful for sure.

Morning Bob.

On one of our trips to the Grand Canyon we saw some rock art that the Native Americans had left for us to enjoy.  Personally, I have a hard time drawing a stick figure

James Dray , God gave me some talent in the art department but not enough to pursue it as a career. The Grand Canyon is beautiful art in itself and in Western North Dakota we have the "Badlands" which is kind of like a mini version.

Kids in our neighborhood are painting rocks as friendship rocks and leaving them to be found by residents.

I'm planning to travel to Utah's Highway 12 to visit Bryce, Zion and Capitol Reef National Parks, later this spring.  As I travel across Nevada from California, there is Hickison Petroglyphs Recreation Area.  The art always reminds me of ancient bloggers.

Interesting - not something I ever read or even thought about! Thanks for sharing, Bob!

That's cool Roy Kelley , after our flood students painted stars and gave them to flood victums. They were a neat gift and I will keep mine as long as I live here.

That sounds like a neat trip Myrl Jeffcoat . Be sure to share some of those ancient blogs with us after your visit.
