What The DUCK!

DUCK! As in water foul. I took a brief bicycle ride today before our noon Easter feast and got some very unusual photo shots. The first shot here is not so unusual but it's a pretty good shot of a goose trying to be incognito. What I like about the shot is that both the weeds and the goose are in focus.... this is what makes this shot unusual.

Incognito Goose

What makes this next shot unusual is the water reflection. As stated all these shots were taken near noon on Easter day. The sky was overcast with rain in the forecast but it was not raining at the time. The ducks pictured below were on the Mouse (Souris) River between the East and West sides of Roosevelt Park. NOTHING was done to modify these pictures other then I added my name to them. Each shot was taken from a distance of about 100 yards with with my Panasonic DMC-FZ70 with the lens fully extended (60X Optical Zoom).

Outer Space Ducks

When I saw this duck (from 100 yards away) I thought "What the Duck!" It appeared to be a billess cyclops duck with one huge eye. I could not figure it out until I got home and could look at these pics. It's mate is pretty cool as well. Again NOTHING has been done to modify these pictures except for me adding my name to them. The water was quite still so what you see is pretty much reflections from clouds and last years weeds on the river bank.

Dear Bob,

Great shots! Is that a baby Merganser? Very cute. Do not see them around here too much. I found a very unusual goose the other day. It turned out to be a Canadian/domestic mix. Interesting black & white patterning.

I think it's a Mallard but from what I saw on Wikipedia they are similar in coloring Dorte.

Morning Bob.

Those are some great photos.  I like the last one, it looks like me when I get up, except for the feathers (hair), it looks like a grumpy old duck

James Dray it's hard for me to imagine you being grumpy at any time.

What a beautiful shot Roy Kelley There is so much color there. Only one artist I know can use color so magnificently... that's why I worship Him.

Those photos are really ducky, Bob.  I find that bird in the next to the last picture to be very interesting.  I don't think we have those here in Sacramento.

Myrl Jeffcoat I believe the pair of ducks are Wood ducks, maybe Bob Crane can confirm that.

Happy Monday Bob,  Great pictures and hope that the hunters let them alone that we can see more of them.

The ducks are safe as long as they are in City limits Will Hamm . That may not hold true for the geese as the City is on a mission to cut down on urban geese.
