A Special Place... in Hell!

I may have preached on this before but a conversation I had minutes ago got my blood a pumping again on this subject.

Out of businessRegretfully, 12/30/19 was the last day of business for our one and only Christian bookstore, Gideon's Trumpet.

Gideon's Trumpet is truly a casualty of on line shopping.

I get that. I do my share of shopping on line. I love eBay.

I saw the lights on this morning so I went over to ask Kay, the owner, how the final sale went. Kay said it went very well BUT she was surprised at the incredible amount of shoplifting that went on during the sale.

WOW! Who goes into a Christian bookstore to steal? I hate to suggest it would be Christians but who else goes into a Christian bookstore!

When I've railed on this topic in the past it was over the visable evidence of theft at church rummage sales and at faith based thrift stores. I said it then and I'll say it again now: "There must be a special place in hell for people who steal from these institutions" and now I'll add to that and say even for those who call themselves Christians.

BTW have you ever thought that one of the reasons that brick and morter shops are closing is because online retailers do not have to deal with inventory shrinkage through shoplifting? If you have ever witnessed a shoplifting and done nothing about it shame on you. If you see it report it. It may keep your local business owner (neighbor) in business.

I agree whole heartily.  It is an interesting world out there today and what might be mainstream beliefs are not always shared by me.

Bob, How could anyone do this at a store like this and going out of business sale also.  Unreal!

Hi Bob... I've seen these stores closing down in the Charlotte area, as well, in recent years. I think it's a shame, in general, that we are losing so many privately owned bookstores... I've always loved browsing in one.

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm -  very sad isn't it.  That is also why most churches have to lock their doors.

Will Hamm add to that the fact that everything was 60% off. Yet they still steal it!

Nina Hollander the store owner had also commented to me in the past that several of the pastors and their wives of the largest churches in town have never darkened her door.

Isn't that something Grant Schneider ? Do they have to stop their own parishioners from stealing? I know at the church I used to attend there were always announcements asking for things to be returned. #1 was that vacuum cleaners kept disappearing.

Bob,

How sad  that this is happening.  Maybe there is a redemption if the shoplifters actually read the books they take...maybe they will grow a conscience.  A

Morning Bob.

What a pity, it truly is a sad statement on our society these days.

This is a sad story to share. Many small businesses are suffering.

I also find it a black eye on our faith assuming that it's Christians shopping at a Christian book store that are stealing Christian items James Dray

On line stores don't have to deal with shoplifting but I'm sure they have their share of theft in some way as well Roy Kelley .

Bob "RealMan" Timm - About 16 years I started worked at a local bookstore in Washington DC called Reiters Scientific and Professional Books right before I got licensed as a Realtor.  I never thought in my wildest dreams that online would put many local mom and pop bookstore out of business. Even Borders Books no longer exist. I worked there too. It's sad though.
